Meet Ariki

  • Hi, I’m Ariki. I bring over 20 years of real-world experience in private practice and in-house legal leadership roles across Australia and New Zealand. I built Uniq Legal to deliver legal solutions that work in the real world.

    I started my career at a boutique practice in Sydney before joining Henry Davis York (now part of Norton Rose Fulbright), where I became a Senior Associate in the Construction & Commercial team. There, I built a strong technical foundation working alongside exceptional legal practitioners (and all-round good humans), advising government and private clients on major projects, disputes, and transactional risk.

    That grounding shaped how I practise today: technically sharp, commercially astute, and centred on a ‘good human first’ ethos.

    From there, I moved in-house where I went on to lead senior legal teams in large ASX and NZX-listed companies, working shoulder-to-shoulder with decision-makers and operators alike across construction, infrastructure, manufacturing, and supply chain sectors, where solutions focussed legal advice really earns its keep.

    Whether it’s M&A, contracts, or disputes, I deliver advice that earns its keep.

    With Uniq Legal, I set out to create the kind of business that I always wanted to work with: Agile. Commercially savvy. Deeply human. Unashamedly client-centric.

  • In late 2024, my family and I relocated from Sydney to regional NSW, supporting my wife as she returned to her regional roots to chase her dreams, and to give our three young boys room to roam.

    The move was about family but also about proving that high-calibre legal support doesn’t need a postcode to be effective.

    Today, I work with clients across the country. I work remotely, flexibly, and travel as needed, proof that when the value is real, geography is irrelevant.

    • When I’m not advising clients, I’m chasing after three boys under six, learning how to juggle work-life with country life, and slowly trying to lower my golf handicap (emphasis on slowly).

    • Grew up in regional New Zealand (Central Otago / Southland);

    • Studied law, business and leadership at three different universities without becoming a professional student.
